Niacinamide, simplified.

INCI · Niacinamide (Vitamin B3)

Niacinamide is the dark-circle workhorse: it inhibits melanin transfer, strengthens the skin barrier, and plays well with every other active in your routine.

What it does

Benefits

  • Inhibits melanosome transfer (fades pigmentation over weeks)
  • Strengthens skin barrier function
  • Reduces redness and inflammation
  • Compatible with retinoids, vitamin C, acids — no layering conflicts
What to watch

Cautions

  • Excellent tolerance even on sensitive skin
  • Concentrations above 10% can cause flushing in rare cases
↗ The evidence

What the science says

Hakozaki et al. (2002) and many subsequent studies show 2-5% niacinamide reduces hyperpigmentation. Consistent daily use over 8-12 weeks is required for visible change.

Niacinamide is the slow-burn ingredient. Unlike caffeine (instant depuff that fades) or PDRN (week-by-week renewal), niacinamide works on melanin over months. If your dark circles are pigmentation-driven — which most are — niacinamide is non-negotiable.
